About this place
With wobbly grass jelly layered with chewy taro balls and boba, Ueno's Heigonghao brings traditional Taiwanese dessert craft to Tokyo. The shop focuses on the clean, herbal profile of grass jelly paired with a satisfying variety of textures.
The signature Heigong series allows diners to pick their favourite combinations. Heigong No. 1 loads the bowl with lightly sweet black rice and rustic taro dumplings, hearty enough to serve as a light bite or an afternoon dessert. Heigong No. 2 spotlights both large and mini boba pearls, contrasting smooth jelly with resilient chewiness. Options like Heigong No. 3 introduce adzuki beans and adlay, leaning into gentle grain sweetness and the jelly's cool refreshment.
Drinks are just as varied, including tender grass jelly black milk tea sipped through a wide straw, fragrant Tieguanyin oolong milk tea, and rich brown sugar boba milk. Alongside the sweet menu, savoury options such as lu rou fan minced pork rice provide an appealing salty contrast to the desserts.
The shop features a compact dine-in counter, while every menu item is available for takeaway. Carrying a cup or bowl over to Ueno Park makes for an easy break on a park bench. PayPay and Rakuten Pay are accepted, making it a convenient stop during a walk through the neighbourhood.
